4. to make up for all that rambling, here's a pretty picture of the cake i made with a friend! (see, i'm still happy hahaha)

we even made our own fondant out of marshmallows and powdered sugar. and it was delicious.

the start of camera's adventures (take 2)

well, i finally sent my camera off for repair.
which led to a strange occurrence. and by strange i mean "oh isn't it a small world, my dear?" said in an old lady voice strange, not really strange.
after packing and stuffing my camera and a surplus amount of bubblewrap into a cosy little box, we found the ups store (which in itself was strange, because we thought it had been abducted.. turns out it was just further down the road than we had remembered. true and unfunny-to-anyone-else story).
the ups man then unpacked my camera, repacked with vigour and a lot of packing tape, asked me lots of questions, and then we both discovered we were from the motherland. (he still has an accent though so my job was not very difficult)
and that's not the strangest part. actually it's not really strange at all because it seems every english person thinks the best thing they can do in their lives is move to florida* plus there's all those theme parks around. but no, we have also lived in the same county. and the same town. and it was all weird and stuff using english place names and someone actually understand me for once, instead of the usual "oh that's nice, you're talking gibberish, why did i ask you where you were from again?" look that comes across most people's face once faced with my hometown's name.

i fear this has turned into a ramble, when all i wanted to do was express my surprise.

frozen yogurt that we bicycle to way too often ... this time we got the sugar overload of pink lemonade sorbet with skittles, cotton candy jelly beans, gummy bears, and rainbow sprinkles.

basically this means that i have still not gotten my camera fixed...

in other news we went to the history museum today for smithsonian day (i.e. it was free) after having rejected the balloon artist at the ihop (???) literally have no idea why such a person would exist in the first place, let alone be employed at ihop. harassing customers to get her to make their "lovely girlfriend" a flower. nooooo thankyou!

we also made an adventure to a used book store (after i searched relentlessly at work for books about bees... don't ask) where i found a book called "storytown" by susan daitch which seems to be a collection of short stories and i have yet to work out whether they are connected to one another. but it is a super exciting book because i've not read anything like it before. recommending before i've finished, or even made it half way, is just my style.

and now i'm going to eat the newly found wonders of garlic rolls... like garlic bread but delicious delicious rolls.

good enough to eat

before i left this morning for a final british shopping spree (not that 2 hours should really be categorised as "spree"..more of a sprint. i like to take my time...), all i could think of was how to get around the new theme of the snail and the pigeon (ice cream) because i was just finding it so so so difficult to even conjure something made up in my mind that would work and could actually be sent via mail...

i also finally checked out we heart it after having seen people loving it on a bazillion different blogs, though the key words "ice cream" didn't really produce anything helpful in my situation.

but "pastel" did.:

i gathered this bunch of photos, expecting to blog them earlier, as a sort of inspiration post, but had lost track of time, had to feed the kittens, and run to catch my train. i thought that was it. my last chance at it being from england was gone, because i hadn't fallen in love with any idea yet.

but in the last store we were in, i found something that i think is so perfect i still can't stop smiling/thinking about it.

i'm not going to say or show what i got, because i don't want anyone to know about it until it arrives with my receiver, but i will say it turned out to be none of the things pictured, haha!

also look at this adorable map the girls at la ville inconnue made! i'm so in love with it...

oh and tomorrow...or maybe tuesday after much resting, i will blog what i received from last month's exchange, from claire! because i will finally be able to touch it haha
